Gathering

Leader: God, we worship you today,
with full stomachs and clothes on our backs.
People: Thank you, God, for your provisions.
Leader: We worship in this place,
with family, friends, and strangers.
People: Thank you, Lord, for companions.
All: May the words of our mouths and the meditations
of our hearts, our praise and adoration, be pleasing
to you, O God. Amen.

Witnessing

Leader: Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth.”
People: How can we hold tight to our saltiness?
Leader: Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.”
People: How can we keep our lamp burning brightly?
Leader: No human can do these things without God.
People: Then what must we do?
Leader: Shout this aloud, raise your voice like a trumpet,
declare this to all people . . .
Men: Loosen the chains of oppression.
Women: Feed the poor.
Men: Give shelter to the homeless.
Women: Clothe the naked.
Leader: When you do this, the Lord will answer your cry
for help and say, “Here am I.”

Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Sermon: “Am I Blessed?”

Sending

It is written: “No eye has seen, no hear has heard, no mind has
imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But
we know these things because God’s Spirit shows us God’s
desires. God has given us the Holy Spirit. Go from this place
looking with the spirit of truth to lead you into opportunities to
be salt and light this week. Amen. — Sandy Miller, Goshen, Indiana
