Do not be afraid

Gathering

Leader: What are you doing here?
People: We have come out of habit, with few expectations.
Leader: What are you doing here?
People: We have come out of curiosity,
to find something we need.
Leader: What are you doing here?
People: We have come out of longing,
to hear the voice of God.
Leader: Expect to find that God is here among us
and speaks to us—
not in the high drama of earthquakes and fire,
but in the dazzling spaces between our words and
in the silence we share together.
(silence)

Praying

Lord, we are afraid. We are surrounded with high-tech security
systems, we invest in weapons for our protection, and yet we
are afraid. We are afraid of dying, afraid of living, afraid of
neighbors, afraid of ourselves. We need your hand, O Christ, to
reach out to us, to beckon us out of the boat, and bid us to walk
with you through the terrors of the storm. Amen.

Sending

Go in the strong name of the One who comes to us in silence.
Go with the sure hand of Christ holding you fast.
Go not in fear, but in faith, that you too are called to a Spiritfilled life.
In our lives may steadfast love and faithfulness meet, and may
righteousness and peace kiss each other.
—Joel Miller, Columbus, Ohio
