Announcements

Today we welcome Clyde Kratz to our worship service. Clyde is the Executive Conference Minister of Virginia Mennonite Conference. He previously served as the pastor of congregations in Virginia and Pennsylvania.

There will be a Fellowship Meal after the worship service today. Everyone is invited to stay!

Wednesday: Prayer Meeting at the church, 7:00 pm.

The Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale will be held October 3-4 at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds, Harrisonburg. The relief sales offers a little bit of everything—quilts, artwork, homemade food, antiques, crafts, music and activities for the whole family. We hope you’ll join us! Proceeds go to the work of Mennonite Central Committee.
A four-session Marriage Maintenance class will be offered at Family Life Resource Center (Harrisonburg) from 7-8:30 each Tuesday evening, starting October 7. The class is offered on a freewill offering basis and will be led by Harvey Yoder (who just celebrated his 50th anniversary). A text, Lasting Marriage-The Owners' Manual, will be available for $10. Register at services@flrc.org or 434-8450.

James 4:8 - Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

No one truly knows Christ unless they follow Him daily in life" - Hans Denck

please fill out the “Welcome” card in the back of the pew and place it in the offering plate.

Turn, then, and live

Confession

People: “Unfair! Unfair!” we cry to God.
Leader: God replies, “Isn’t it your ways that are unfair?”
People: We will not find life by arguing with God.
Leader: Listen to God’s call: “Turn, then, and live!”
People: God has no pleasure in the death of anyone,
Leader: so turn away from sin or it will be your ruin!
All: Consider, turn away, and save your life!
(pause for silence)

Praying

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
I wait for you to teach me your ways,
so that I can follow your paths.
Because you are good, you instruct us in what is right
when we humble ourselves and listen,
and you cover our weakness with your strength. Amen.

Affirming Faith

In you, Lord Jesus Christ, we have encouragement and comfort.
We share in the spirit of compassion and sympathy,
instead of our selfish conceit.
In Christ, we have God’s mind, God’s love, and God’s unity.
This is the same mind as Jesus had,
who laid aside glory to serve,
and is exalted on high forever.
God is at work in us! God is enabling us
to will what God wills, and to do what God wants.
