Announcements

The Fall Harvest Party will be held today at the Huyard Farm. Help is needed after lunch to cut up vegetables for the Brunswick stew. Bring a good knife. Other things to bring: lawn chairs, a side dish (salad or dessert), containers to take home some stew, and ingredients as assigned (see Kathy). Stew will be ready to serve at approximately 4:30 p.m. There will be some activities for children.

The 13th annual Festival of Praise will be Sunday, November 2 at 4 p.m. at the Eastern Mennonite School auditorium, 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg, Va. This praise-filled concert will feature 11 men’s a cappella singing groups and a combination choir directed by Jay Hartzler. An offering will support the ministries of Virginia Mennonite Missions.

Our next Missions Offering will be November 9 and will be sent to VMM & VMC.

Staunton Mennonite Women: Save the date for our annual Christmas Dinner, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. at our church. Please plan to bring an item for a silent auction: a craft item, holiday goodies, jewelry, a scarf, plants, anything you no longer use, but think someone else could.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour next Saturday night!

Prayer requests

  • Peggy Blosser as she recovers from a stroke and for Nelson as he cares for her.

  • The Duncan family as they grieve the loss of Howard’s brother, Gordon.

We speak . . . to please God

Gathering

Leader: Sisters and brothers, we gather today to remind each
other that our delight is in the Lord! We are like a tree,
ready to be watered anew by streams of living water.
From deep root to young bud, we are sustained by the
same Word.
People: Come, let us delight in the Lord!

Confessing

Leader: Holy God, you have called us to be a holy people.
People: Forgive us for times we have sought holiness in ways
that reflect our image, not yours, and in doing so
have created idols. Remake us into your likeness.
Leader: God of all, you have called us to be a people of peace.
People: Forgive us for times we have sought peace but
neglected justice, and in doing so have profited by
the blood of our neighbor. Heal us in your mercy.
Leader: Loving God, teach us to love our sisters and brothers
as ourselves that we might bear witness that you alone
are the Lord. Amen.

Sending

God of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, we leave this place
remembering the story of your work in the world that began
long before us. We find hope in the knowledge that the story
does not end with us either. Lead us forth from here in memory
and hope, free to proclaim the good news that the kingdom of
God is here. Amen.
