Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
1 John 5:1-8 New International Version (NIV)

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.  This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

My refuge is in God

Gathering/Call to Worship

Come, let us worship and wait on God. For our hope lies in
God: our rock, our fortress, our refuge.

Confessing/ Reconciling

Leader: Where can we go from your spirit? Or where can we flee
from your presence?
People: Like Jonah, we hear your call and we run from it. But
we can’t quite get away.
Leader: We place our confidence and hope in our material possessions.
Or we think we can secure our salvation by
renouncing our possessions.
People: And we so easily forget that you alone are our rock and
refuge.
Leader: Thank you, God, for your sheltering presence.
People: Thank you, God, for your power and love on which we
can trust.

Sending

We go now in the confidence and joy of the Lord, resisting the
drag of anxiety, trusting in God alone as our rock and refuge.
