Message: Kevin Gasser

Kevin will be teaching the adult Sunday school class August 23, and 30. Each week Kevin will email an adapted version of a section from his thesis for review. If you wish to participate in the discussion or would just like to be included on the email list, please let Kevin know today.

Next Sunday there will be a big event after church that you won’t want to miss! There will be a picnic lunch at Sherando Lake, followed by a baptism service. After the baptism there will be a guided hike led by our botanist-in-residence, Kadrin Anderson. Please bring your own lunches, swimming, and hiking gear.

Waynesboro Mennonite will host a district-wide “Family Fun” event on August 29 from 1-8:30 pm in their church pavilion. There will be a carry-in meal, games, and live music. Please see the bulletin board or Garlan for more information.

Save the dates: Applesauce making, September 8 and 18; Apple butter boiling, September 12 and 19. More information to come.

Please pray for:

  • Our church families as they return to school.

  • AD Strickland, recovering from an infection in his heart.

  • Joyce Showalter as she heals at home from shoulder surgery.

Ephesians 5:15, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise.”

No one truly knows Christ unless they follow Him daily in life" - Hans Denck

Seek peace, and pursue it

Wisdom invites us to her table. She calls us to live and walk in
the way of insight. The Lord calls us to fear him, for those who
seek the Lord lack no good thing. Jesus offers us the bread of
his broken body and the drink of his shed blood. All who accept
his sacrifice will be filled with his Spirit.
Come to the table set for you. Abide in Jesus and he will
abide in you!

Leader: When you face a school bully and are pressured
to fight back, what will you do?
Children/youth: We will seek peace and run after it!
Leader: When political leaders call on you to fight
with military power, how will you demonstrate
your loyalty to Christ?
Younger adults: We will search for peace and maintain it!
Leader: When it seems like you are alone in your
prayers for peace, how will you express hope?
Older adults: We will strive for peace and promote it!
Leader: When human greed and violence destroy
the good earth God gave us to steward, how
will you live as God’s created and redeemed
All: We will seek peace and pursue it!

God of all wisdom and life, you have called us to turn from
evil and do good, to seek peace and proclaim it to this hurting
world. Guide us as we search for peace and make us both bold
and joyful as we pursue our calling to represent Christ to our
world. Amen.
